What Has Been Accomplished

Even the media sharks who smelled so much blood in the political waters seem to have resigned themselves to the fact that there will be no smoking gun revelations linking Donald Trump to collusion with the Russian government.

I honestly believe that the Schumers, Pelosis and their ilk in the senate and house who instigated all these committee hearings, FBI investigations and special counsels never really believed in their hearts that Trump was guilty of collusion in the first place.

It�s all politics, plain and simple, an unholy thirst for power that takes over the morals, the common sense, the honesty and every waking minute of the mind, a determination that no person, no political party will stand between them and the seductive drug of power.

No dirty trick too low, no lie too outrageous, no smear too immoral, no leak too secure to sway you from your accursed tunnel vision where guilt or innocence has no place, truth doesn't matter and if you can't kill, cripple and maim.

I believe that the fear of the establishment on both sides of the aisle has nothing to do with collusion but fear that if a renegade maverick outsider who never came up through the ranks of partisan political indoctrination succeeds as president, the American people will realize that we don't need for politicians to stay in power for thirty years.

That our founders never intended or allowed for career politicians, that congressmen and senators were to serve a couple of terms and go back to private life and allow someone who has lived, not in the �ivory towers� of a career politician, but at street level, aware of how the laws passed in the seats of power affect We The People, not some jaded old hack who has sold out so many times they've turned into a political prostitute.

What Trump�s enemies hope to accomplish is to stall any progress the Trump administration would make, but in the process of cutting the presidents throat, cut Americas throat at the same time.

No entity is more complicit in the spread of innuendo, leaks and downright lies than the media, so deep is their disappointment about Hillary's "sure win" loss, so rabid their hate, so progressive their political philosophy, they have drawn their battle lines and invested all their credibility and reputation in bringing this president down and can't see past the next leak or juicy rumor that will turn up the heat a couple of degrees.

Suppose it works, suppose the Trump administration gets so entangled and tied up that the military doesn�t get reinforced, medical care goes on as it is until it implodes, the infrastructure goes unrepaired, the immigration problems go on unabated, the terrorism problem isn't dealt with, no new tax legislation, no new jobs, no businesses returning to America, the economy tanks and a thousand other things that need immediate attention.

What will be accomplished?

The progress of the nation will be set back for years.

The danger to our security will multiply exponentially.

The economy will continue down the path toward collapse.

Obamacare will implode leaving untold millions without any protection

And of course, those are just the tips of the iceberg, the catastrophic results of four years of gridlock could finally push us off that fiscal cliff the politicians are so fond of talking about.

And for what?

So, a few old power hungry senators and congressmen and their mentors can regain or retain control?

Is that all the oath they took means to them? Actually, they should have taken an oath to their political parties.

If Donald Trump is guilty of collusion with the Russian government, he should be impeached and driven from office and tried for espionage.

If Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama turned back forces that could have rescued the besieged embassy in Benghazi they should be held accountable for it.

If Loretta Lynch tried to interfere with the FBI's investigation of Hillary Clinton's email debacle, she should be brought up on charges.

Let the guilty be exposed and dealt with, but in the meantime let the business of the nation go forward.

You politicians who hurt this nation for the good of your own party or the detriment of the opposing one are not fit to sweep out the chambers you serve in.

What a President is supposed to do

A President is supposed to chose the right course and be capable of following through on it. I could not think in a million years that anyone would chose a failed casino owner with ties to the Mafia, multiple bankruptcies, failed marriages, and a history of sexual depravity for that role. No one who has run for President has shown less commitment to this country, less insight into how the government works, and less concern for the law. How a man who lives in a golden tower suddenly became a man of the people is a mystery to me. Except that he hates people, all people. If they do not do what he wants, he will do what he can to hurt them. He has a long history of trying to hurt people and he made no secret of it during his campaign, the ugliest I have ever seen. He hurts the people who support him, too. But in the end what makes him an unfit President is that he is incompetent. He does not listen to people. He cannot communicate with people. He does not understand his obligations or responsibilities as President and he clearly does not care. He fails again and again and again. It has not even been a year of watching him fail. And when he fails, he and his supporters blame everyone but him. He never takes responsibility for a single mistake he has made. Forget about the Democrats. He treats them like dirt and they give back to him what he deserves. He cannot even win over the Republicans. Mitt Romney never looked so good.

Dana. You are precisely what is wrong with our country right now. Charlie has the handle on what's happening and you would do well to listen. The politicians in office are corrupt if not MORE SO than President Trump. The hateful liberal agenda is going to bring America down and all of us will lose everything. They're teaching this in schools

In High School I took a debate class. I was under the misguided notion that debate was meant to get all the idea in the open so the best one could be adopted. BOY WAS I WRONG! They were teaching win at any cost, nothing is off limits. Just win. I could not stand before a audience and purposely mislead them especially if the misrepresentations caused harm. My conscience just wouldn't allow it. So I quit the class. I'll never forget when I quit my best friend and the teacher were smiling like demons straight out of hell as I walked out. So, I guess they won. Right?

Dana is correct on this one. I am puzzled that you all think that a narcissistic egomaniacal man that brags about grabbing women's genitals and mocks a disabled reporter is the answer to our problems. He has a long record of dishonesty such as his so-called university and many of his business dealings in NYC. Despite his promises to make America great again, he proposes no specific solutions and makes statements to the effect that he did not know that health care reform was so complicated. He has stated that he could "shoot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue and not lose a single voter." Unfortunately, his voters don't realize that this is an insult, not a compliment.

One last point

Charlie suggests that Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi started the investigation of the Trump campaign. What actually started it was the release of DNC e-mails by Russian hackers and the interception of communications between Trump campaign members and Russian intelligence. Charlie says in their heart of hearts, neither Schumer nor Pelosi believe that there was any collusion. That may or may not be. What I know is that I believe it and I suspect many more people believe it as well. The evidence is circumstantial but striking and overwhelming. Who could forget Trump asking the Russian government to hack into the State Department computers and then under pressure from his own party backing down and claiming it was a joke? Charlie says that no smoking gun will be found. On this we are in agreement. People willing to commit treason will not balk at committing obstruction of justice.

Amen, Amen & Amen Charlie, term limits would go a good ways in solving the problem. Educating voters would be a big plus, because when I read some of the responses I see what the drug problem has done to this country, remember the commercial of the egg frying with the saying this is your brain on drugs. I can vouch for Mr. Trump because some years back I dealt personally with him on a job. I can say that I never worked for a finer, more honest individual ever. Trump is the greatest thing that has happened to the USA in the last 100 years. I am sure that all of those slamming him are pro-choice murderers that would give money to PETA over feeding a hungry child. nuff said God Bless Plowboy

Your soap box is right on and it is good to see someone state it so well. We cannot and should not be partisan about our politicians legal or illegal behavior. I have often said that I do not believe the founding fathers intended the being a senator or representative should be a life long position. Nor should they be able to make decisions and allow themselves exception. Thank you

Charlie makes some very sane and insightful remarks regarding the current status of our political system. If only the majority of America could adopt his view. The USA would be a better place and he made these remarks without resorting to the vitriol and obscene remarks that have become so common in society today. You are so right and hit the nail on the head! Our forefathers did not want career politians! I worry for our country and I worry for its people. And i keep praying for us. I pray every day for our president that he is able to do the job that we voted for him to do. He certainly is trying. And doing a good job despite all the opposition. I even pray for the opposition. Acomplishments or lack of and one reason why

I'm 66yo, retired and Marine vet. I believe the one of the problems in Washington, and inability to sit down and work together, stems from the social media era we live in. Instant information sent out to the public, some true, some fabricated to incite hate. People have a tendency to believe what they read. Watch the news for 1 hour and see all the tweets, from the media, politicians, and yes the President himself. In the old days of news coverage stories were verified before they were reported on. Today with the instant information avenue, we can send out whatever we want, true or not. It's seen by millions of Americans instantly, and amazingly believed by the public. This avenue is used by Politicians to bring down their opponents from the opposite party. They don't need to sit and talk. They let the lies and hate enhance their agenda, and destroy foes. Stop for second and watch people walking down the sidewalk, sitting at dinner, riding in a car. Eight out of ten have their heads bent down reading all the media and chat garbage. We have to find a way to determine truth from thrash or the Washington trash pile will just get deeper and deeper. Just a thought and God Bless America.

The primary and fundamental problem with politics today is the difference between how the demoncrats view republicans and how republicans view demoncrats. Republicans absolutely hate most of the demoncrats views and ideas. Not so with the demobncrats. They hate republicans and do everything they can to dehumanize and destroy them.
