An Open Letter to Those Who Would Do Away With the Second Amendment

The fallacy that by severely restricting the sale and ownership of firearms as a means of curbing violence in America is easy to discredit, in fact, we need look no further than across our southern border.

Did you know that there is only one gun store in Mexico, guarded by armed military personnel? And it takes months of paperwork to even have the chance to buy a gun.

If you are not law enforcement or military you are lucky to procure a .22. The common people in Mexico have about as much chance of being adequately armed, enough to protect themselves and their families, as they are of winning the lottery.

And even if they are able to jump through all the hoops, getting ammunition is another steep mountain to climb.

In other words, the rank and file citizens of Mexico - for the most part - are not armed and have no hope of being armed.

Now, that is not to say there are not plenty of guns in Mexico. The dope dealers and cartels have an abundance of guns of any and every caliber they want, in fact, the paramilitary security forces the cartels use to enforce their will are about as well-armed as a combat soldier in the field.

Now how were these guns obtained in a country with one gun store and such impossible requirements to buy firearms?

The black market, of course.

Unfortunately, many of them are purchased in the United States, a fact that is seldom - if ever -mentioned or maybe even known, by the gun control crowd and something strict border security and shutting down rogue gun dealers could help curtail.

So, in essence, we can say that with the exception of law enforcement, military and a handful of people who can either bribe or game the system, practically all the guns in Mexico are illegal.

Now, let’s look at what effect such ultra-restrictive gun laws have had on crime.

Between 2000 and 2012; 215,000 people were murdered. In 2012 Mexico had a murder rate of 21.5 per 100,000. In 2018 there were 33,341 murders and it is expected, when the 2019 statistics are complete the number will be even higher.

Violent incidents, armed robbery, etc... increased from 5.2 million in 2017 to 6 million in 2018.

One of every 10 women in Mexico has been a victim of sexual assault ranging from groping to rape and there are 120,000 rapes a year, one every four minutes making Mexico the number one nation for sexual violence.

Nearly 1,200 kidnappings happened in Mexico in 2018.

Mexico is among the most popular sources and destinations for international child abductions and has one of the least effective systems of protecting and returning internationally abducted children within its borders.

Politics in Mexico are, and basically always have been, as crooked as a barrel of fish hooks and as corrupt as a mafia horse race.

There is simply so much money generated by the drug trade that by means of buying off or intimidation the drug cartels do practically anything they want to without fear of official intervention.

Some of the most gruesome murders of the century have been committed in Mexico, mass graves, grisly, hideous show murders as warnings to informers, politicians and law enforcement officials who refuse to cooperate.

So now we arrive at the crux of my article.

What have all these super stringent gun laws done to protect life in Mexico?

If you will be honest, you’ll have to admit that it has done the opposite.

It has armed the criminals who have no regard for any law and will obtain weapons by whatever illegal source available to them while leaving the law-abiding citizen without the means to protect themselves.

This policy has created and encouraged the rise of the powerful cartels, who, for all practical purposes, control the country.

Now, the most important question of all.

Do you not understand what happened in Mexico and do you not believe that the same thing, or something very similar, could happen in America?

Can you not see that when you take away the means of protection from law-abiding people, it is not going to reduce the gun population among the criminal element one half of one percent.

In fact, it emboldens them.

It has been proven over and over that about the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, and no matter how vehemently self-serving politicians may contest this, the fact, and it is a fact, remains irrefutable.

In fact, the next time you see Bernie, Uncle Joe, Elizabeth or any of the other anti-gun candidates, ask them “If good guys having guns is bad, why do you always have armed security with you?

What do you think?

Pray for our troops our police and the peace of Jerusalem.

God Bless America

From My Cold Dead Hands
Amen, Amen & Amen Charlie as Moises (AKA Charlton Heston) often said that is how he would give up his guns. I'm the same way. Jesus told us in Luke 22:36 King James Version "36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one." It does not get any plainer than that. The only thing that President Trump has done that I disagree with is the outlaw of Bump Stocks, a great made in Texas invention . Time and time again the good guy with the gun stops evil. Like it or not we the people are the true first responders because we are there from the get go, dialing 911 takes time and it also takes time for the police to get there, as the Texas Church shooting shows seconds count....nuff said God Bless Plowboy

Gun control
Your soap box about Mexico and their gun laws is spot on. That's why gun control advocates will never understand or accept it. Doesn't fit their narrative. Or they see all too well that an armed citizenry can and will defend itself against tyrants.

Not. One. Inch.
"If violent crime is to be curbed, it is only the intended victim who can do it. The felon does not fear the police, and he fears neither judge nor jury. Therefore what he must be taught to fear is his victim." - Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, U.S.M.C. Thank you Mr. Daniels, for having the courage to speak out on this critical issue. The hypocrisy of those who would strip our Constitutional rights is staggering - armed security and/or CCW permits across the board. They need to address the simple concept that criminals do not obey laws, so everything they have done up to this point (and everything they plan on doing - see Virginia -) has only hurt law-abiding gun owners. Make no mistake, Bloomberg, with his personally funded multi-million dollar "grassroots" anti-gun organizations (Everytown and Moms Demand Action, which are both fully stocked with his brainwashed minions), and his bought and paid for Virginia politicians will never stop until 100% confiscation has been achieved. We must not give in. Not. One. Inch.

HOW to Support Gun Rights
Charlie, you gave a VERY good, very PRACTICAL explanation of why citizens should be armed, MUCH better than many others. All this talk of gun rights in terms of “tradition” and “heritage” is crap. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether or not citizens should be armed. People can’t relate to it. They know that a lot of things from the old days were a bad idea. And, strangely enough, supporting gun rights in terms of the wisdom of the Founding Fathers is also crap. Again, people can’t relate to it. Yes, the Founding Fathers were wise. And they were wise to add the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. But even they were only human. People know that even the Founding Fathers could have been wrong about something. You just can’t expect people to blindly not question the Founding Fathers. -- Tru Cola

In Summary
It’s not POSSIBLE to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. So instead of trying, we should counter this by allowing law abiding citizens to arm themselves. -- Tru Cola

That was a truth bomb
So glad you included this: "powerful cartels, who, for all practical purposes, control the country." Now when you remove and restrict guns, you strengthen those gangs and criminals - along with the black market. In effect putting lawful citizens under the threat and control of those same. Be well and thank you for shining a light on it. ~ NIMOC

Serving the General Public
The better the private sector is used to serve the general public, the more government actions will be seen as obsolete, and the more people will be open to support candidates in favor of smaller government, who also tend to be pro-gun. -- Tru Cola

Gun Control...a good eye and a steady hand
The State of Virginia has been involved in so much American history, the French and Indian wars, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War (more battles than any state) and the War on Terror. I wonder if Virginia is walking into the biggest battle ever, the right to keep and bear arms. Self-defense is a God given right, the caveman kept a large club and a few rocks by the door, today a .380 auto-loader. You see they won't take your guns until they have made every aspect of owning and using a firearm a pain in the rear. Crazy laws about ammo and transporting ammo, felony charges for violations of laws they are making up so they can charge you with a felony so they can take your guns away because you are a convicted felon. Type in nra virginia and you'll see some hearings start Jan.13 it's worth a look. A while back Charlie talked about the "form" you are required to fill out every time you buy a firearm. The "form" is the background check many pages, lots of questions and in my opinion an overbearing invasion of privacy and all part of the plan to get your guns. Deplora-Bill (good guy with a gun)

Response to “Gun Control...a good eye and a steady hand” by Deplora-Bill (good guy with a gun)
Bill, here’s a concern that gun owners REALLY need to worry about: privately-owned prisons. The more people there are in privately-owned prisons, the more $$$ the companies that own these prisons make. Politicians who receive campaign donations from these companies can pass more and more strict laws for those who already own guns, and for those who choose to start owning guns, in hopes of people overlooking these laws and ending up in these facilities. – Tru Cola

Second amendment

Not just the 2nd amendment
The liberal machine doesn’t just want to take away the 2nd amendment or the 1st amendment. They want to complete the fundamental change Mr. Obama began. This is the left’s vision of fundamentally changing the U.S. This is what the liberal indoctrination of our youth is doing and why Millennials and Gen Zs believe in socialism. “Congress should pass legislation reducing the size of Washington, D.C., to an area encompassing only a few core federal buildings and then admit the rest of the District’s 127 neighborhoods as states. These states — which could be added with a simple congressional majority — would add enough votes in Congress to ratify four amendments: (1) a transfer of the Senate’s power to a body that represents citizens equally; (2) an expansion of the House so that all citizens are represented in equal-sized districts; (3) a replacement of the Electoral College with a popular vote; and (4) a modification of the Constitution’s amendment process that would ensure future amendments are ratified by states representing most Americans.” https://harvardlawreview.org/2020/01/pack-the-union-a-proposal-to-admit-new-states-for-the-purpose-of-amending-the-constitution-to-ensure-equal-representation/

The problem with your argument...
...is that it's the lax gun-control laws in America that flood Mexico with weapons, not Mexico's tougher laws. It's just like when you folks bang on about Chicago and their tough laws when it's the "here, take a firearm!" attitude of states like Indiana which are the problem. Satcomguy

The black market is too powerful. Look at meth, for example. It's illegal, but it still gets into the hands of lawbreakers. And it's illegal in Mexico, yet 80% of it here is flooded from there. Guns, on the other hand, can be used for self-defense, therefore we should focus on more guns for good people instead of less guns for bad people. Yes, more guns instead of less sounds strange, but that's the way it is. -- Tru Cola

Second Amendment
Look at U.S. map (better a satellite night image): It’s very easy to see the metro area population concentration. And very easy to see the more vast areas of darkness. I’m a retired sheriff’s detective (having served honorably for 30+ years, 20 as a patrol officer; 11+ years as a detective & supervisor). I served a very rural area in Western KS (the Black area on the satellite image). Dissecting the County were two U.S. highways & 3 state highways. Of the five highways two were major illegal drug mule routes from Mexico through AZ, northeast to KC & Chicago. We were always short of money & staff. Bloomberg says citizens shouldn’t own firearms, only the police. IMO he’s completely ignorant regarding rural America. Example: Our overnight shift was staffed by one deputy/one car. Weather permitting, allowing that our deputy wasn’t busy, it took more than 50 minutes at 120 mph to cross the county (diagonally). Add rain, one hour, add snow and bump that to 1 1/2 hours; ice at 20 mph...unfathomable! Many times our residents were our backup. The vast majority of our locals were our friends and neighbors; good people. Mr. Bloomberg would do well to educate himself regarding rural America. To save one’s life, or the life of an entire family in a farming community the option of calling 911 is more a matter of sewing up the loose & legal ends rather than a life-saving option. I proudly recommend our farmers, ranchers & small community citizens (including wives & mature teens) to own and train. And I will say the same for city dwellers. I worked with detectives from state metro areas too. Even within a city the police are still precious minutes away. Seconds can be life altering, something Mr. Bloomberg will never have to consider as he “hires” 24/7 security to worry about it for him. I support our Second Amendment and I support the NRA. There’s an old saying around law enforcement: “Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6” Become very familiar with your weapon of choice, train safety first, and God Bless All law abiding Second Amendment advocates. Believe me when I say Mr. Bloomberg, and the rest of the gun grabbers haven’t a clue. It’s oddly evident the “grabbers” have targeted law abiding gun owners while NEVER offering a solution about solving the problem of what to do about the criminals who pay absolutely no attention to gun laws and never will. Thanks to Mr. Daniels for this opportunity to post, & God Bless America!
